Looking at the new 45nm Yorkfield Quads, i got my eye on a:

"Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, Yorkfield Core, S775, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz, 12MB L2 Cache, OEM"

Which i can get for a shade under £200.

Would it be worth me upgrading, from my E6600 @ 3.3, money burning! :)

For gaming etc and futureproofing (for a while anyway haha)

Doesn't seem worthwhile to me, you'd be gaining more improvement for the money by getting a better graphics card...

Was looking to do both actually, but put off the GFX for a while until something better comes out / prices drop. You think an E6600 is still pretty good? (at 3.3GHz?)

Yes, for gaming. Maybe if you did studio work or video processing and absolutely had to save time on those tasks, then a Quad would make sense.

I'm in the same boat so to speak.
Waiting until Jan or so until the eventual price drops so I can maybe snag one cheap ish and use this one in a backup PC or something.

Don't expect much. In fact there is a better chance that they will go up. The exchange rate was sitting at only $1.65 to the pound the other day.

i would keep it

i dont max my quad when video editing
and if i didnt do that there would be no point having it - i would have stuck with my e6300

Nice OC! what voltage that on? Ive got mine still set on "auto" in bios what should i set it too?

1.475v in the bios. It does 3.6Ghz on 1.45v. It's even a high vid at 1.3500v. Fantastic cpu though. I certainly do not intend to get rid of it for a good while yet. If anything get's upgraded it will be the graphics card, but only if i get a bigger monitor.

hi

had mine for nearly 2 years now and i reckon with a gpu upgrade it will last me another year

awsome chip.

I went from a E6600 at 3.6ghz to an e8400 at 4ghz, to be honest i haven't noticed any difference in games, general desktop office work etc. If i had that choice again i'd have put the money to work elsewhere in my rig.

I'd stick with the E6600 for the time being, and see what's about when the i7's arrive, you could either get one of those, or shop around for an even better price on a yorkfield perhaps.

I've been tempted like the op has, but I think i'll just wait till I see a good clocking Q6600 in the members market, the old E6400 is still doing a great job now that i've clocked the family jewels off it.
