Upgrading a Q6600, i5 or i7?

i7 4770k it is then :D

I think it is the right choice because I only upgrade every 5-6 years.

Now to decide on a board.. Currently looking at the Gigabyte Z87X UD3H and UD4H.

Heh watching this thread with interest 4770... 4670 ... 4770....4670... 4770 arghhh. I do think if I get the 4670 will I regret not getting the 4770 atm not a lot a difference but would that change. I just wish the 4770 clocked better if I could get a 4770 at 4.5ghz I would be more than happy but it's all down to the intel lotto. Need to find a recent average overclock review for the 4770 see what the average is, it may be around 4.2 hope I'm wrong though.

Just get the 4770k, you won't regret it :) I am ordering one on Wednesday.

Yeah I know I prob will in the end .... until I read something else. Maybe I should stop reading and start ordering :D

i have just ordered a 4770K rig to upgrade my Q6600 and when i get it all together i'll try and upload the stats and pics so keep a look out mate if you want info on someone in your position :)

I recently upgraded my Q6600 @3.4ghz and IP35 Pro with 6gb ram and a 5850 to an i5 3570K @4.5ghz with 16gb of ram, the difference is fantastic, I thought I would run my trusty Q6600 forever but the i5 was well worth the money and the recent addition of the 7950 to replace the 5850 has made it even better, so either the i5 or i7 should see you well for a few years as the Q6600 did. all a matter of budget, buy what you can afford!

I just received my 4770k+ Noctua DH D14 cooler :D. Too bad I have to wait until tomorrow for the board (Gigabyte Z87X UD4H) and RAM (Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB). The difference in performance should be massive!!!

Yeah spend some extra money for the 4770k but it is definitely worth it for me :)

The Q6600+ IP 35 PRO will always be in my heart!

Hehe great to see so many Q6600 aficionados still around! :)

I'm waiting 'til nxt year to upgrade mine (Biostar P45 btw), keep putting it off LOL

Went from the Q6600 to the spec in my sig...brilliant upgrade and 'only' £570.

Future proof I say go AMD :D Showing very good results in BF4 benchmarks.

Just finished building my new rig, had no problems, the cooler only gave me some trouble. I have to say that I am really impressed so far!!!! I am now waiting for 3 120mm fans (Cooler Master JetFlows) for my case and then I will start OCing :D

The smell of new hardware is awesome!!!!!

Chuck a pic up when you can, what probs did you have with the cooler?

I had some trouble trying to mount the fan to the bracket, screws were a bit stiff. Had to re-apply thermal paste because I removed it the first time, other than that it is easy to install and it is reeeaaaally quiet :D.

Will upload a pic later :)

Also wanna know how fast she runs, hope its a good one!! My build is on hold atm till I sort a few things out but similar setup but the GB OC board and a 280x

Keep us posted

Loaded the BF4 Beta, I'm getting 60+ fps and a very smooth performance, with the Q6600 I was getting 30fps and constant stuttering. It should go a lot higher once OCed and with a new GPU :D
