So I'm looking to upgrade my a77, possibly to a A7s or the newly announced Canon XC10. I'm looking for a good all-round stills and 4K camera.

I like the A7s but will need to buy a Shogun for it. The XC10 looks really nice but has a crappy fixed lens.

I might be tempted to get either a Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K with Shigun or a Blackmagic Production Camera 4K EF (which needs a side handle)

Do the Black Magic cameras even shoot stills? I thought they were purely for video?

I guess the GH4 could be thrown into the mix for consideration.

Ah yeah that's ture. I am worried about rolling shutter on the A7S and GH4. Also the GH4 seems to be behind the A7S in various comparisions.

Things you should know:
- A7s is good photo camera with decent video features and stuning low light abilities but as video cam it's impaired by severe rolling shutter which is at least one generation behind current SLR video cameras (be it 5d or Gh4). It also doesn't store 4k footage ie. it only has ability to output 4k signal out but currently there are no portable recorders to store it at least npt within price range that would justify choosing it over dedicated 4k cam. Buy it only if you need static low light shooting with wide lenses without crop factor.
- Anything Black Magic is terrible idea if you need photo shooting as well.
- Anything Black Magic with "Studio" in the name does not store footage, these are heads only with live output.

If you want 4k video go for Ursa range. If you want 4k video and photos GH4 is your only vuable option atm with all the downsides of mft crop.

Not on your topic but what did you think of the A77, I am thinking of trading my old A100 & A330 in and upgrading to one?

It's a fantastic camera and I loved mine, I'd say its the camera I 'bonded' most with. I changed to a full frame Nikon D700 and I'm just not feeling the love for it, I miss a usable live view and the EVF far more than I thought I would so have been considering going back to one for a few weeks now.

Everything about it will be a step up from what you are currently using. High ISO performance isn't so good but I never shoot above 1600 anyway so was never an issue.
