I don't know quite what is giving me the urge to upgrade my current system, perhaps I'm feeling the urge of an enthusiast. Anyway...

Current Spec

eVGA 650i LT
e6600 @ 3.2
4x1gb Corsair XMS2 PC6400 800mhz
BFG 8800GT OC
Zalman CNPS 9700

All in an Antec 900, CPU idles at 30 degrees - No idea on load temps though, as I have never benched properly. *HIDES*

Looking to purchase....

Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Thermalright HR-03-GT VGA Cooler
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)
Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

The fan controller is something I've always wanted to have, as the Antec 900 is stupidly loud and I'm sure when my system is idle i don't need to be pushing the amount of air through it that I am currently.

Looking to lap the heatsink and get a really nice OC out of both the CPU and the Card. Have never lapped before, any advice here?

I'd also need a fan for both the CPU and VGA coolers - thoughts?

Is it worth the upgrade?

well if you are using the system for gamming would get an E8500 as this should clock better than the Q6600.. would only get the Quad if you need the 4 cores :)

If you are looking to overclock with go with an Asus board, only downside would be if you had to RMA

Lapping is a bit daunting at first but plenty of guides around and kits you can buy would research into it..

Fan wise you are always opening a can 'o worms' but I would suggest a Sharkon Silent Egale 2000 plenty of ommph when you need it and can run nice and slow and quiet at idle

Well overclocking is down to a number of factors CPU/RAM/Motherboard/BIOS and all can effect the clock you can get.. But in general the Asus boards are more stable @ high FSB and also cope well with all 4 RAM slots used..

Edit:
I was reading xtreme forums yesterday and saw that a guy there had a new E8500 @ 4.7Ghz on a P5K-E air cooled.. only looked briefly so no idea how reliable that info was but certainly expect to beable to run 500 FSB+ on my P5K-E when I get an E8500

As far as I am aware the Premium / Deluxe versions are the same PCB (someone correct this if I am wrong) and you can actually run Premium and Deluxe BIOS on the P5K-E which would suggest they are.. Only difference as far as I am aware is that the Premium / Deluxe offer some extra readings off the board such as a reading for NB/SB Temps etc.. But in general clocking terms I dont think there is any difference (again if I am wrong please correct me!)
