2GB OCZ reapor PC6400
ASUS P5K (black pearl edition)
BFG 8800GTX OC2
X-Fi elite

Gotta bout £500 to splash around

PC for OC'ing and gaming and heavy multimedia work

agree with the above - going to 4gb would be a good step up, though the need for 64 bit OS comes into play then.

Upgrading the graphics is a 50/50 thing for me as the 8800GTX is still a good card and will play all current games well but will struggle in the future.

all water cooled with amazing kit so that doesnt need touching.

new cpu?

What mobo would people suggest? an EVGA 780

Personally, I'd go for Vista64, 4 gb of RAM, Asus Xonar sound card and possibly faster hard drives, depending on what you have already. If that's not enough, then perhaps a new quad :) Use the rest of the money to save for an upgrade later on, or to buy beer :)

youv got a really good processor at a good clock, do you really need to upgrade that? 4 gigs of ram would be a good step up, upgrading the graphics card would be my next choice, you would notice the biggest difference with a gtx280.

Personaly if that was me i'd save my money and wait a couple of months then grap a Core i7 when they come out in Oct. But if you did want to upgrade now

Sorry to hijack another thread but I'm after an 8800gtx for myself - so I'll buy it from you if you're wanting rid :) /troll

a difficult one with the 8800 still a v good card so you could by another for about £100 and have a nice sli setup or go with a gtx280. Agree with the 4gb, if you have a 64bit OS

Was thinking of something with abit more L2 cache?

What do u need the extra cache for? is there anything in particular your 3.6 Q6600 does badly/slowly?

do i really want vista above XP pro, i dont really want to come away from xp yet

If just upgrading to 4GB then no it doesnt really matter, stick with XP if u like it. u will only be able to see approx 3.25-3.5GB of the total 4GB in a 32bit OS but that will not make a noticeable effect. if upgrading to 8GB (which may help with multimedia work?) then u will def need a 64bit OS to recognise all the RAM and by all accounts 64bit vista is good.

sli mobos are not very popular on here, so dont i wouldnt get one unless i was sure i wanted to sli.

yea im part of the crew that slated the 680i but in the end it was still a decent board lol even though 4 broke on me!

4gig i will defo need for multimedia work and that is the 1 upgarde that is top of my list, as for the L2 cache then there nothing my cpu cannot handle its just the more cache the quicker/better performance on the multimedia side of things

i want upgrade lol personally id say that a down grade but hey

The HDD i have is a 150GB RaptorX so maybe another of them and go RAID0

il have look round the CPU threads for the best atm

X-fi's and Vista have issues. Hence I suggested changing to the Xonar ;)
