hhhheeeellllpppp how do you put a stop to the upgrading bug why do we all just keep pushing for more more processor power more graphics power bet half the forum dont use there pc's to the full spec and hide behind the wall of making it future proof :) :) :)

Lock all your money away, quit your job and make your only means of upgrading selling your kidney. If you still upgrade you need to be locked away.

I upgrade every 3 years, but tbh there are no games about that require me to upgrade yet. Had this pc for about 3-4 years now but I don't see myself upgrading until the next gen consoles are out. Or maybe just a gpu as a stop gap as this GTX280 gets a bit loud.

The only reason my PC had an upgrade is the efat my GFX card has died so was replaced

up until bout year ago it wouldnt really bother me i had a q6600 setup which ran great came into some pennies and thought that i would treat myself to 2500k setup had it for a few months and got the urge to watercool it then oc'd to see what it was capable of got fed up with that and moved onto the 2700k and kind of going the same way started to use the systems for folding, video editing/photo editing/ gaming so im moving onto a 3930k setup so im hoping this should last me for 5 years at least, dont get me wrong i do enjoy messing around with stuff, boys being boys i guess lol

if it werent for the missus i prob would have a room full of toys lol seen a few of the guys on here setups makes mines look punny lol and i say to myself i aint tht bad lol but what if lol

Ive had my i7 920 for about three years now, in that time ive changed gpu's a few times, gtx 275 -gtx 275 sli, then a gtx 470 which i also ended up sli'ing. Now on a gtx 670. Ive though about upgrading the cpu, mobo and ram, but tbh what i already have is more than enough.

Buy the best to begin with, then it won't need to be upgraded for a long time.

Buy the best performance for the money. The 980x/990/other expensive CPUs are being beaten by the newer i7 CPUs in most tasks and for much less.

Could build a decent i5 setup with the money a 980/990 (even 970 I think?) cost.

I am fighting off the urge to buy a new case (Raven RV03) and monitor (one of those 27" 1440p korean ones).

I have the exact same problem mate. I just cant stop, soon Il be giving NASA a run on computing power if i keep buying more and more parts.

Back in Feb I went to buy BF3 on the PC. Turned out it needs Windows 7. Alright then, suppose it is about time I upgraded from XP..... But also a DX10+ GPU? Right fine okay, may as well get a new CPU whilst I'm there, and RAM too..... £550 later (plus £30 for the game ofc), I was up and running.

But then I kept looking at new stuff, and getting new ideas. Hmm, dual screens would be nice again. Oh, nVidia Surround? That looks good, but needs 3 screens really. May as well make them 24"..... My GTX460ti isn't going to power them very well though, so best get a GTX670, I can always SLi that when it gets a bit long in the tooth......

But if I'm getting 3 monitors, I want them to be on articulating arms attached to the wall, without a desk....... Well, I'm decorating the house anyway, may as well incorporate that! Right? Right......?!

*is the fact...heavily hungover haha, i do have tendencies to space and then put the E on "the" and then ive just missed the C from fact, i will be able to sleep better tonight knowing that my typing error was pointed out though, thank you :)

If you got the disposable income then there is nothing wrong with it. If your life suffers/or you spend you school/university grant then complain you have no money for food then it's a no no.

My comp was made in 2004 and hasn't changed since. It does what I need it to do. There are phones out with more processing/graphical power then my PC.

i lost it, used to have a new pc every 6-12months. Had this one 4 years

Gains seemed to have dropped off considerably :(
