Upgrading but can't decide CPU

Hello community!

Right, so I will be upgrading fairly soon, all other components have been decided except the CPU (Bit silly right? I should've started on it but the AMD vs intel argument is so long it gives me a migraine)

So, the main point is, it'll be *mostly* a gaming right except there will be some encoding / rendering involved as I intend to fraps some of my game footage and make videos out of it.

As such, my question is, should I stick to the Phenom II x4 955 OR go for the hex core?

I am aware the 955 is a better choice for a computer based on gaming, but I wondering if it'd be worth to go for the hex core because of the footage aspect.

Any insight / advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Of course, sorry, should have thought of that in the first place. I'm pretty set on the other components, just mulling over the CPU now.

Yup, hope you're going to overclock though as the 1055 isn't all that brilliant at 2.8GHz (for gaming).

I know it might come across as silly since it's the OC website, but I actually didn't intend to overclock. Never done it before so I'm not sure I'd be able to. I mean i've read the basic instructions on how to do it but not so sure I'd trust myself with it. Which is why I was undecided :P

HIS are fine and the card comes with a 2 year warranty. :)

Also overclocking isn't too difficult and I'm sure the guys here would be happy to help you with it.

agreed with the 1055T and 5870! thinking of the exact same upgrades myself :)

The 5870 is well worth the extra tenner - otherwise, you may as well get one of the cheaper 5850's.

change the card to a KFA2 460 and save yourself a few quid, if you look at a certain uk review site beginning with a h

normally comes within a few fps or beats the 5870 for only £217

Read that, looks like a decent card except for the fan and its noise, I'd still go for the 5870 myself though.
