Upgrading computer; how to reinstall Windows 7?

Hi,

I've got myself a new cpu, mobo and ram and assume I'll need to reinstall Windows 7 as a result? I've got a retail version of Windows 7 so no problem there.

For the time being I'm using my existing HDD (until I get some monies for an SSD!), so is it just a case of fitting the new mobo, changing the boot priority and reinstalling from the Windows disc to copy over the old installation? Will it let me do that? I wasn't sure if the existing installation would hamper things or whether I somehow need to format the hard disk first?

Sorry if this is obvious! :)

This isn't very helpful but if you search Google there are a few guides on how to upgrade your PC without having to reinstall windows

I contentious issue on these forums, but it is not a forgone conclusion you need to re-install, in my experience I've never encountered a similar situation where re-installation is necessary, to date. My advice would be to just try booting up with the changed hardware and watch it squirm to replace the drivers, what is there to lose, you could save yourself a lot of time re-installing and re-configuring if it works.

Great stuff thanks guys. I think a full reinstall is probably the best idea because I'm switching from AMD to Intel and I forsee problems if I don't. :)
