Upgrading Cpu

I just want some advice, I'm using what seems old now PD 925 hehe and am hoping to upgrade after christmas. My case is a Antec Nsk 2480 380 w psu.

Im willing to spend max 250 what should i get?

not all lga775 MBs support core2duos or quads.

what else is your PC made of?

gigabyte g33m s2 and also 2 gb of ocz pc2 6400

e5200 if only dual core is required and will be overclocking
e8400 or e8500 if you want to a good dual core at stock
q9550 or q6600 for multitasking and if quad core is needed for you

£40 more for 0.15GHz isnt worth it, just increase your FSB by 1 or 2 and you've reached those speeds anyways with the e8400 or e8500.

How come there is £30 differnce between the e8400 and e8500? apart from 0.16 lol

It has a 9.5 multiplier instead of a 9

If your not rushing i'd be tempted to wait a week or so. notice the stock levels , looks like they are running stock down on Quads why?

tbh it's not worth getting E8500 over E8400 either if you're overclocking.. x9 multi is plenty since all recent Intel chipsets are capable of high fsb.

Yeh think im going to go with the e8400 seems to be best buy at the moment but still might change after christmas in sales haha
