Upgrading discs and pads - any performance difference?

just out of interest do you boys replace your brake lines with braided hoses or do you run the stock mix of rubber/metal lines?

No not yet but when i upgrade to some 4 pots on the front then i will.

Dont use Dot5.

Dot 4 plus has the highest boiling point, 20C higher than 5.1

from wiki:

Minimal boiling points for these specifications are as follows:

Ranges Dry Boiling Point Wet Boiling Point
DOT 3 205°C (401°F) 140°C (284°F)
DOT 4 230°C (446°F) 155°C (311°F)
DOT 5 260°C (500°F) 180°C (356°F)
DOT 5.1 270°C (518°F) 191°C (375°F)

Thanks for the advice guys - lots of useful stuff to take in :)

Is it difficult changing brake hoses? Obviously getting air in the system would be an issue, but would it otherwise be pretty much plug and play?

Will the brake fluid I have at the moment definately not be Dot 4/5? It is the standard stuff that BMW use (can't find any info on it).

Have you ever had brake fade on the stock setup Nick?

Cos the stock pads are Brembo's.....

Didn't notice any fade after two consecutive laps of the Ring, but I guess it might have been a problem had I done 1 or 2 more. Didn't realise they came with Brembo pads as standard!

be careful mixing dot 4 and dot 5 fluid as its not all compatible.

me... i use super dot 4 from halfords on my race bikes. no brake fade at all. :)

Suppose it depends on the revision but brembo pads arn't all that imho.

brembo do budget too like all companies. ;)

chances are they arent that highly rated for the type of driving your doing as not everyone does trackdays lol.

Lots of cars have unbranded Brembo's, they do branded and unbranded pads & discs.

Brothers 530 had some generic motorfactors pads on, crap & faded on a ocuk outing. Took some advice, found stock pads are unbranded brembo's, slapped them on & now don't fade.

I'm not saying the BMW oe pads are fadeproof, just that they aint crap pads so don't discard them by default, give them a chance.

Fact that the oe pads are a but rubbish untill hot gives you an indication they are performance orientated.

DOT 4 + (As in Castrol Super Dot 4) is 286C dry.

I guess you missed the 4+ and thought i meant 4

If you want the ultimate, Castrol SRF is 310C dry a massive 270C wet.

I can now tell the world I have some brembo braking components.

I feel special.
