Upgrading from 290 (non x) Crossfire?

So after buying a secondhand msi 290 to use in crossfire with my other 290, it's all been a bit of a disappointment low fps, flickering, poor drivers and lack of profiles (my own fault I knew the problems with crossfire) but hey you live and learn right? I won't be going down the multi gpu route again any time soon. So I'm looking for a upgrade for my 290s in swaying more towards AMD as I've always been a user and there price/performance can't be denied. Pretty much anything that will max out games 1080p/60fps with some low AA. I'm not really to fussed about the next gen line up I'll probably sit that one out. My budget is around £400 with maybe a stretch to £450 (at a push) btw I'm still open to nvidia ideas guys so I'm not 100% ruling them out. Cheers

Get a nano and overclock it.

Or just wait... Probably best to wait.

I have 290x crossfire and I'm in the same boat, xfore sucks and I want a single card
But I'm going to wait.

managed to get crossfire to work in dark souls 3 so km happy for now

Wait a few days and see whats coming first, if ya still not fussed about the next gen there will be lots of people who are fussed throwing their cards on the second hand market for ya to take a look at.

I dropped my crossfire 390X's and went back to a single card ...... I have been messing with CF for 5 years but just lost the will to live with all the messing around.

I'm in exactly the same boat. Still running crossfire 290, but as soon as Vega 10 drops, I'm done with it.

If you do not want to wait for next gen cards to appear and want the best 1080p experience I'd go with a 390x from AMD or stretch the budget to a 980ti for the ultimate 1080p performance from Nvidia.

However: Concerns over Nvidia's current gen's DX12 performance would make me personally save a few quid and get the 390x.

However (2): At the end of the day you have a 290 and that isn't miles behind what a 390x and even a 980 ti can do so I'd make do for now. You'll be glad you did when we get offered next gen cards that do push performance well beyond the 290's capabilities across all games.

Think about it, at the minute there's examples of the 290 almost matching the Furies and examples where it's close to the 980ti so be content with what the 290 does today and do your upgrade when there is a true upgrade path available to you.
