Just after a bit of advice regarding a long over due upgrade from my long lived and trustworthy 5870 as it is starting to show it's age.

What I am after is essentially the best price/performance for under ~£300

I've narrowed my choices down to the 7950 or one of the cheaper 670's. Now I notice the performance difference is fairly slim but the 670's are a good £50 more expensive, I have no interest in 3D and physX is not a big deal for me.

I play at 1920*1200 on a single monitor.

Also, if possible a suggestion on exactly which variant of your suggested card to go for would be appreciated.

Advise away!

The WF3 7950 or the IceQ Boost 7950 depending on which one suits your needs. Best 7950s in my view. The WF3 is very quiet, runs cool (as long as you have decent case cooling), Gigabyte have 3yr warranty and UK RMA(clincher for me).

The HIS warranty is 2yrs and the RMA is to Asia, up to 4 weeks, and done through Ocuk.
The IceQ dumps hot air out of the case, is also quiet, runs cool. The choice is yours. :D

Interms of 670's this is damn good and falls bang on £300.

I jumped form a 5870 to my 670 and the difference is immense.

Personally there are plenty of recent and popular games out there that utilise physx.

This 7970 is £20 over budget.

Or you could save some cash and go 7950, which looks cheap in comparision to the cards above.

YOUR BASKET
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99

Decent 670(most are), but, far, far overpriced(again, most are) in consideration to the £60 cheaper/similar performing 7950 IceQ.

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs £239.99

Hitman, FarCry 3 and Sleeping Dogs are thrown in too v's heehaw nothing at all with the 670, add the ~£40 value for the games along with the £60=~£100 real world cheaper than the 670 above.

If the op has been happy living with his 5870 then it's a no brainer imo, the only reason to change to Nvidia would be if you had an abysmal time with AMD leaving you no choice but to suck up the bump/blatant ripping off of their customers that Nvidia are currently employing.

PhysX is great candy imho, but it's not worth anywhere near ~£100 for the pleasure.

Cheers for the advice all, definitely going to go with the 7950. Considering I can just sell 2/3 codes (I don't have Farcry yet) that comes to a good chunk off the price of an already cheap card.

I Went for the wf3 7950 with the nice games bundle ,100% happy with it and dead cool
i not oc my wf3 yet as it doing fine all on max settings in farcry 3.
