Upgrading from 7990.

I don't have Witcher 3 for PC, sorry. I'm really only playing FF14 atm, which means buying a new gpu would be a waste of money but I'm feeling that itch again.

No worries :)

If you are playing FF14 only then I see absolutely no point for you to do any upgrade...
As you said previously only 295x2 is a good 30-40% upgrade, other single card like 980ti will only boast 10% - 20% and no more scaling issue.

I keep thinking about upgrading my 7970 to something new, but aside from the usual thoughts of going for a 980 / 980ti / 390X, I am tempted to just drop another 7970 in. Mind you, I'd need a new psu.

Currently I wouldn't go crossfire, it's really buggy in recent games.

I've been thinking about getting rid of my 7990's for a single card solution, possibly a 980Ti. I don't want to crossfire ever again, well not unless DX12 comes up with a solution to all the AMD profile rubbish. Thing is my whole system could do with an upgrade (x58, Xeon 5650) as I game at 1200p and it doesn't quite justify a new card. I will wait for Skylake maybe then make a decision as I want to maybe go to 4k gaming.
