Upgrading from a 3570K?

I'm currently debating whether or not to upgrade my CPU, as I've had my 3570k for around 2 years now. Is been quite a while since Intel introduced their new series, with the I7 4790K and the I5 4690K.

So tell me folks, is it worth upgrading my 3570K to a 4960K or an I7 4970K? This is predominantly for gaming, and my 3570K is overclocked to 4.5GHz.

Idd, i went from a 3750k to a 4790k, i only did it as my mobo died and i didnt wanna buy into an old chipset, you wont see much improvement. I would save your money for one of the new GPUs coming along soon.
 
Save your money as the jump in performance for gaming is minimal. Put the money towards better peripherals and a nicer monitor if you want, but you really won't gain much by swapping for a new chip apart from maybe increasing the minimum frame rates you experience in some games.
 
only platform worth upgrading to from that is x99.

even then only some games you will see benefits like bf4 for eg. many older games you wont.

i5 3570k is still a great cpu.

keep it.
 
Only odd games will benefit. Ive upgraded my i5 3750k to a i7 3770k. Granted my i5 wouldn't overclock as much but ive got a extra 400mhz on the core but i was seeing about 7-10 extra FPS in GTA 5. Also saw more gains in Assassins creed unity and syndicate too. Not really tested a whole array of games but i noticed an improvement. It will only improve in situations where your cpu bound or games can make use of more threads. Games that use 2-4 threads and dont stress the cpu much which is the case for most games you wont see no improvement.
 
3570k to 3770 isnt much of a jump so that so be expected newer cpus some gains are massive.

for eg this week some games i benched at 1080 going from a 3570k to a 5820k

bf4 my fps with my card my settings were 140 ish.now 200 fps doesnt move . massive difference.

Rust i just done avg 15 fps move min 20 fps more

Dirt rally small difference of 5 fps on min max avg.

so games that cater for it you can see big gains.
 
I thought the same thing with the 2500k. I did a cheeky overclock now runing at 4.4ghz with some room to go higher.

Save your money and overclock the 3570k
