Hi, im upgrading my GTX 260 but i dont know what to yet.

Also i have always chosen Nvidia over ATI, mostly a personal choice, but also because a lot of games are optimized for Nvidia.

Anyway im not sure on a few things, i was going to SLI this but have no room in my tower and current motherboard wouldnt support it, so i need help with a few things:

which is better for a single gpu card? i looked at the ATI 4890 and are much cheaper then the GTX 275 onwards, is ATI that bad??

Can i Crossfire on this Abit board?

Is there much a difference between a GTX 260 and 4890?

i was thinking of getting this card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-141-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1403

Thanks

There will be a big difference between thoes 2 cards, the 4890 would walk all over them, but personally, i would wait 3 days and get the 5870. It will be released for aroud £280 (this means if you dont have a budget). The 5870 is as fast/faster than a gtx 295 which i think is amazing, single gpu vs duel dpu and it walks over it. But yeah if you got a budget, get a 4890, if not get a 5870

money is not a problem, but i dont think i could justify the price, with the monesy saved from getting say 4890 i could upgrade cpu or motherboard

edit, when does the offer run out on the 4890 i linked?

Write off the hd 4870 straight away, Overpriced at £150,

Personally wait and see what the hd5850 will bring in like a few days. our 260gtx can't be that bad. The new hd5850 wll be near £200, not much more than one of the cards you posted.....

@#8...You really are misinformed, 4890 is basically on par with a 260 OC, you will see no real world difference, a 2GB 4890 will show no difference either, unless you run at max rez. So if you want to side grade to a 4890 for sole purpose of moving to ATI, then that's all good, but if your doing it for performance, then its all fail. Wait for the new ATI cards if you want to see some substantial performance boost.

As he said around 3-4 days.

sounds the better option, i guess those will also support DX11?

i will wait a few days see what come up and get back to you.

Thanks everyone

squeeze the most by overclocking the 260 GTX, and then simply wait for the new ati cards to fall in price, and they will after the hysteria drops away.

I disagree, The 260 is on par with a 4870 not a 4890. But either way dont upgrade from a 260 to a 4890 as its just not worth it. Get yourself a 5850/5870 when they are released.

games to justify upgrade equals virtually zero at this point and mw2 will be not to high in spec so your fine until at least march next year.
