Time has come that my faithful 290X is starting to struggle with some games and it's been a great card.

I've no particular ATI/Nvidia issues - happy with either.

Gaming is normally 1920x1080.

What are my options? RX 480 seems decent? Not bothered about the latest and greatest, i don't tend to upgrade that often

£200 budget or there abouts, needs dual dvi outputs for 2 monitors.

The RX 480 and GTX 1060 are a sidegrade at best. You could get a used 980 Ti for a tiny bit more. They're regularly advertised for not much over £200 on the MM. Otherwise wait and see what Vega is like and how it affects pricing (though it's unlikely there'll be anything close to £200, with the RX 580 being a rebrand of the RX 480).

really? out of the loop so no idea really!! nothing moved on that much in the last few years???

I think it's more a testiment to AMD's driver team and the improvements they've given it rather than anything else, On release it was being beaten out by the 780ti which is now a long way behind the 290x in just about all the new releases.

hmm - ok. I guess looking around I see these cards (290X) still go for around £100 2nd hand. Budget could stretch to £250 or so. Like I say - not that bothered about new stuff (Vega) etc but if that forces the current gen of cards down a bit in price fair enough.

I'd look at selling the R9 290X on EBay and adding that to the £200, but you still won't get a large benefit. I only went from a R9 280X to a RX 480 when I sold the 280X to a friend for £80 and bought a Clearance RX 480 8GB Nitro OC+ from OCUK for £210. I can't tell the difference in most of the games I play.

At £200 there isn't any upgrade. Either wait for RX Vega to see how prices unfold, or buy a second hand 1070/1080. The R9 290X is ageing well, especially if you have it overclocked and with latest drivers.

Also if you see around RX 580 on sale, is a Polaris 20 chip. Basically Polaris 10 (RX480) manufactured with Low Power Plus (LPP) process, instead of Low Power Early (LPE).
Plus some better clocking, and better VRAM

There is no way you'll be able to buy a Vega GPU for £200. Just get a second hand gtx 980 ti as that is going to be a massive upgrade especially if you can get one that OC's well. :)
