Motherboard died and I'm not throwing good money after bad (hard to source a new z97 mb)- so its upgrade time.

need bang for the buck, something with equiv or greater performance bearing in mind my GPU is
a 970 and I don't play to upgrade it, mostly game at 1920x1200, eg. warcraft, which likes CPU clock.

giving the i3-8350k serious consideration. how are they for oc'ing? if i can spend an extra 50 quid for i5, i'll do that.

The 4670K and 8350K are both 4 core 4 thread CPU's, you're not going to see much difference and the Z370 platform suffers from the same dead-end-ness Z97 did.

If it must be Intel think about the 8400, or 8600K if you also want to overclock.

Or the Ryzen 2600 is just as good.

Way cheaper to get a 2nd hand z87/z97 mobo. Gains in new technologies you'd need to throw a good wedge of cash to see any tangible difference

ddr4 memory new mobo new cpu and cooler vs the cost of a 2nd hand z87 it's a no brainer for Warcraft. Buy used.

If you must upgrade consider Ryzen for bang for buck.

i googled his board and found one exactly the same on bay for £50.they arent hard to find and not that expensive.

I went from a 4.7 6700K to a 4.8 8700K and noticed no difference in my games or on the desktop. Unless you have a use for all the extra cores they will just sit there mostly idle. Inspite of what people might say, things generally speaking won’t change anytime soon.

Try to pickup a cheap board and only upgrade if there is a real need.
