upgrading gpu, installation tips?

Hi,

So in my current box im bumping the 8800GT to a GTX 460.

I just wanted to know what the usual procedure was for swapping out cards.

Can I boot the system without the driver for the new card installed, then install them? Or will I have to install them before I put the card in?

Uninstall the 8800gt Nvidia drivers via control panel, don't reboot, shut down the system.

Swap cards over, power up, wait for generic drivers to install then restart and install latest Nvidia drivers, restart and you should be good to go.

they use the same driver.

download latest driver from Nvidia website.

turn off pc remove 8800gt, install gtx 460, turn on pc, install latest driver with clean install ticked.

not really necessary to uninstall.

Job done.
