Upgrading hardware

This post will be of a rather big demand and in no way am i being lazy. I understand some simple computer concepts but most of the hardware i'm not very good with.

So firstly i'm looking to upgrade some of my hardward, most of it infact. I'm looking to buy an SSD, new mother board, some form of cooling as currently one fan is doing all the work (not watercooling), a new processor, not sure if i need to upgrade my RAM. But my powersupply unit is 750w and only a few months old so that doesn't need upgrading and i feel my NVIDIA GTX 970 MSI is doing a sufficient job too, i'm also looking for a new case as over the years mines taken some battering.

The big ask here is that someone basically construct me a computer or help me find new parts for what I've specified because i'm not sure what would be compatible with what etc.

My budget is currently around £500 for what iv'e mentioned, i'm not sure on the quality of the products i'd be getting for that price but i wish for them to be high quality. As i'm not sure on prices etc you'll have to let me know if it's possible or not for what i want.

Before we get down to the parts this build will be for computer GAMING specifically, for games like fallout 4, Battlefield and general high demanding games, all to run on ultra settings if possible.

My computer specs is it stands:

Processor: I5-3470 @3.20 ghz
RAM: 8.OOGB (6.99GB) usable(hence why i'm not sure on this bit)
64 bit
PSU:Corsair CX 750W
GPU:NVIDIA GTX 970 MSI
Not entirely sure on the mother board, Cyber power INC or something like that.

So as i said, if any of you could suggest new components for the build, and even something iv'e missed out which would be compatible together and additionally a case it would fit in i would be extremely happy and grateful.
As i said at the beginning of the post i'm not very good with this stuff, whilst i don't expect to be spoon fed a lot of help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Again my budget is £500, i could stretch to maybe £550 but i'd prefer not to if possible.

Thanks in advance, sorry for any confusion caused if iv'e give the wrong information/or not sufficient. If any additional information is needed, just ask!

what motherboard do you have? I think the onboard gpu may still be switched on hence you have only 6.99gb available.

you still have a strong set up I would look at an ssd, some case fans and a better cooler then you may OC your cpu a tad
you could for more ram but I wouldnt see the point in spending your budget on a gpu or CPU as you have fairly recent hardware in there already

if you download speccy and install it it will give you the details of you're motherboard

As said its a descent spec already, just get yourself a samsung ssd for your boot drive and it will feel like a new machine

Hi, I have saved some pennies this month and am going for a new GPU (GTX 970), before I make the jump can someone please tell me if my PSU is packing enough punch, I am using a Cooler Master RS-500-PSAP-J3

Thanks for any help.

What would you recommend putting on there, my OS and few of the 'big' demanding games? How do i know how much space their require, would a 240GB be enough? Any specific SSD's you'd recommend?

currently ive got a 120gb Ive got my OS on it and my programs. ive got steam libary on my 2tb hdd Im planning on getting a 250gb ssd and dropping my 120 into the wifes laptop. then ill be looking for a cheap 120 for the nieces pc as shes starting to become a bit of a gamer...

shes just got my old FX8350 on the sabertooth board and a 2gb gts 450 gpu off me which she helped to build up... ( she's 12!! )

She's doing well for a 12 year old then! Remember when i was that age was planning on a Toshiba laptop that could barely run minecraft on 10FPS :(

her brother has been asking for a ps4 for his xmas.... she wants a steam controller!!! shes been using an old lenovo i3 workstation that I gave her at the start of the year and she's got into gaming on the pc... so as shes shown an interest and the fact all she wanted for xmas was a steam controller I thought it would be going to a good home..

her brother, my oldest and there mum's were going out to a local fund raising thing today and she asked to stay back and help me build the PC!!!

she's keen to learn so I dont mind donating it to her as I know her mum wouldn't be able to get her it being a single parent.

plus it put's me into the favorite uncle position :D

Give it til march and she'll be teaching her brother how to build a computer as he will be wanting to build a PC too, as it's so much more fun to play on computers than consoles! It's nice to see someone so young interesting in making her own things, if she has that attitude she'll go far in life!
