Anyone done this?

I'm looking at doing this my self but have no idea what I'm looking for so any ideas what to get and where from would be awesome.

Cheers

Yeah it was kinda half arsed wasn't it, doing nights is messing with my mind.

The install won't be a problem as its just a question of soldering, I was asking more about which ones are recommended.

What styles do you play :) ?

What's your budget? The wood your guitar is made from will make a substantial difference too.

I play rock and metal,

I don't really have a budget, I'll be upgrading my Washburn P2 which is maghony.

Just been having a tiny look and I might be leaning towards Seymore Duncan sh-11 custom but does that go at the neck or the bridge orrrr does it even matter?

Well neck pickup think thick warm, slash like. It also gives a fatter tone

Bridge = for soaring leads/ high gain solos, usually more articulate.

I recommend a Tone Zone/ Paf Pro in the bridge and a Air Norton in the neck.

Both dimarzios :)

You can e-mail Larry Dimarzio via youtube and he'll get back to you, he's got back to me every time. Tell him the style of music you play and what wood the pickups are going in.

Wow cheers fella, I'll do that tonight :D

for metal i recommend EMG's there high output so sound great with high gain metal, a lot of people aint fans though but there definatly worth looking into if you play a lot of metal.

ive also heard a lot of good things about Bareknuckle pickups but i havent personally tried them.

what amp do you use? as any pickups would sound like dirt through a crap amp

I've also heard good things about EMGs, and I've heard some first hand on a guitar my mate put together himself, they're certainly best for metal and suited his playing style.

meh I used to have a guitar with EMG's. They make some nice single coils but the humbuckers can't do much more than metal....

I'd look elsewhere, make sure you e-mail Larry.

Get some Gibson classic 57s in there, sorted. Easy to install to i did it myself on an old Epi les paul, before I got my Gibson LPs.

From what I've played with, I like Seymour Duncans and Dimarzios. You should test the different brands and models out really to achieve the sound you want.

Anyone here used Seymour Duncan Alnico II's on the bridge? Thinking of getting one for my Epi Les Paul custom.

The standard epiphone bridge pickup is actually OK on solo's, but rythem is quite muddy. The Slash sound is probably my favorite but I dont know if getting that sound will be as easy as just changing pick-ups.
