Oh Canada!
I have the rig in my sig. Do I need to upgrade? No. I am a gamer. The extent of multitasking I do is watching youtube while I play overwatch and maybe running HWmonitor.

Do I want to upgrade? Yes. Why? Because I like new PC parts and they make me feel special. Can I afford it? Sort of.

Option A) Cease consumption of all vices (I'll leave them to your imagination) for 2 months, save up enough money to buy 8700K, decent Z370 board, 16GB DDR4

Option B) Continue conspumtion of vices and keep current system

Option C) Reduce consumption of vices by 10%, slowly syphon money into savings, hopefully having enough dosh by ice lake for a system platform upgrade.

What would you do?

keep as is or sell the mobo combo and replace with a ryzen, no point changing anyways, but certainly no point if you plan to upgrade in 2 months to new intel, if you got money your itching to spend then maybe a monitor depending what you already have, or get VR.

There's absolutely no need to upgrade right now. Save your pennies for the high refresh rate 4K monitors that will be out next year which will cost over £1K - perhaps as much as £2K.

I bought a 1440P 144Hz monitor in December

Ryzen is not going to improve my gaming perf. It'll hurt it actually. Not an option.

well if you get an 8 core ryzen it will improve however big that would be, also newer faster ram otherwise just save your money,

Please do research before you give advice. No Ryzen chip is faster than Intel i7 for gaming.
Ryzen is like 2nd gen i7 level for gaming mostly.

please refrain from making a pointless thread when you clearly know the answer.

fyi i have seen and read mix reviews/comparisons on both, your not using a 7700k which is the best intel for gaming right now.

So? 4K is a huge qualitative leap from 1440p. Otherwise, it seems you're all set until the next round of GPUs.

I'm good at 1440P. I bought my 1080 in December. Looking to get 2 yrs out of videocards right now.

I basically want the 8700K purely for e-peen... Idk what to do...
I don't really have any PC nerd friends IRL to show this off to or anything...
