I am currently using an ACER travel mate 5720 it has a an 160Gb hard drive installed, because I am running vista this doesnt seem to be a lot. I have been looking at 500Gb SATA 2.5" drives. I was wandering if anyone has upgraded there laptop drive before and what speed should i go for 5000RPM or 7200RPM.

Here are some specs just incase:

Intel [email protected]
4Gb DDR2
160Gb HDD
ATi X1700 Mobile GFX
Vista Home premium

and one last question how well would that run Vista 64 ultimate?

Upgrading the HDD should be pretty easy. Go for a 7200rpm drive if you can, as they are noticably faster than the 5400rpm models.

Your spec will run Vista 64 fine - I have it running on my laptop perfectly which is a similar spec to yours except with a T7500 not a T7200 :)

do you know anywhere i can find the drivers to reidentify my GFX card as the X2500 mobile because i installed these new drivers as photoshop cs4 was having problems with the original drivers so i upgraded the catalyst then it became an X1700 which fixed the problem but bedazzled me:(

Hmmm, tried Acer's website?

It might be that the cards are architecturally identical, like for example the 9800GTX to GTS250, which would explain why the name has changed.
