Hey Guys.

Thinking of upgrading my system and would like to have your guys opinion on a good MoBo, CPU and RAM for my setup.

Current setup runs most games pretty well, i just feel that my RAM is a pretty big bottleneck at the moment, and if im going to upgrade RAM its about time i upgraded MoBo as well, then the only component left would be my CPU... so my logic is to just upgrade it all.. unless any of you guys things it is not necessary.

Current Spec:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780ti
Intel i7 950 @3.07
6GB Memory (unsure of speed, command line shows 400 *shrugs*)
Gigabyte Tech X58-USB3

Looking to spend around £600 for the MoBo CPU and RAM, can push to £800 if it would perform leaps and bounds ahead of a £600 setup.

Any questions please ask.

I'm looking at that and I think you don't need an upgrade for the CPU/board etc.

What is it struggling to do? what resolution do you play at?

Start with adding an SSD?

What cooler do you have? and are you using a 64bit OS?

I have an SSD, sorry forgot to mention, my issue is that i could go ahead and upgrade just the RAM, but my MoBo is not DDR4 as far as i know, i was told i should only really 'upgrade' my memory to modern memory not old technology, i know only a little about computers so what i'm saying might not make sense.

EDIT: i still from time to time see performance issues in games such as WoW (raiding) and the new Farcry4 on highest settings.

DDR4 is for X99 boards only, Z97 and mainstream chipsets are still DDR3 like what you currently have.

I get Farcry4 performance issues sometimes too and im running X99+GTX980 so there you go. WOW is just poorly coded for multi core cpus.

I could show you this,

• 5 year warranty on the board and a free upgrade in 3 years - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

But unless you are using a 64bit OS you cant use more than 4GB RAM anyway.

I honestly think you should overclock what you have.

I would like to switch to DDR4 at some point, is now not the best time to do so?

the only issue i have with WoW really is when i try and fraps gameplay, i run it from my SSD so i do not believe its an issue there. seems more processor related.

For gaming a Z97 board+i7 will be faster as games cant use all the cores properly on the X99+six/eight core CPUs, plus the i7 4790K runs at 4GHz (turbos upto 4.4Ghz) which is much higher than a 5820K for example.

Ok, that actually sounds quite good. i will give it a look over and make my decision.

Thank you very much for your time, you have been a great help :)

Another thing to watch out for is old SSD that use the Sandforce SF-12** controller,as they do not work on Z87/97 chipsets, so what SSD do you have?

If you have a aftermarket heatsink and it has socket 1155/1156 fittings, then this will also work on socket 1150 (maybe add new thermal paste).

Plus again 64 or 32bit OS?

I have a fairly new SSD, Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 256GB.

Unsure about the heatsink fittings off the top of my head, but if it does not fit its no bother getting one that does.

i run 64bit OS :)
