Upgrading my 7950

Yeah the 970 is still a nice 1080p card, 980ti/1070 is good for 1440p.
Im running my 970 @ 1080p most games I can run at high to ultra and still get decent frame rates. on some games you need to drop the settings a tad for it to stay up there but its still a good card.. Im just getting power hungry now ive dropped in an i7 and want more graphics power... :)

My lad still runs my old 7950 @ 1080p and its still a good card for what it is but when you compare it to the 970 there is a big gap in performance

I'll be doing a similar thing in the near future as my trusty old sapphire 7950 is getting a little long in the tooth. I am going to see what sort of offers come around on Black Friday, if nothing takes my fancy i'll either be going rx480/1060 or 1070 depending how frivolous i'm feeling!

its a good option and i have one myself and have no problems with it but there is a niggling doubt in the back of my mind if 4gb of ram is enough for todays graphics cards, but this could just be me over thinking it

The fury's are dirt cheap for a reason - not many want to buy a 4GB GPU when we're almost in 2017 :D

Just like to put it out there that I have owned a Sapphire Fury pro since not long after they came out (cost me £429), and not once have I ran into any issues with Vram in any game I have thrown at it. Ultra settings on BF4, BF1, FO4, GTAV. I game at 1440p on a BenQ xl2730z freesync monitor, and it's a fantastic card. Upgraded from an MSI 290, so I would vouch for it as a great upgrade from a 7950, for £249 it's hard to look past.

I won't argue there are better cards out there, but for the price, it's fantastic, and has plenty of legs left in it.

Yup, there's plenty of people who have never had issues with 4GB vRAM, myself included. Depends on the games you play really, vbut the Fury at £250 is a great option right now.

watched a recent video and found it funny that in most of the games sli 970 gtx beat amd 480s.

so tbh. either pay max 200 for a 480 or get a 2nd hand 970 for 100 ish quid.

both are about double performance.

only other real upgrade from that is a 1070.

And people are criticising the Fury for 4GB VRAM...

That's because it's the top end card and the cards below it of the same generation have double the amount.

At the end of the day the 4gb's of ram is plenty as long as you are willing to very occasionally drop the texture setting to keep memory usage below 4gb's, I've had to do it and when I have I've been unable to tell the difference unless I stop playing the game and stare at screenshots side by side so really it's a non issue. The ram hasn't really been an issue at 3440x1440 either, I'm playing ROTTR again at the moment and I've had to drop a lot of settings to keep the fps playable but the vram hogging texture setting is no different to what it was at 1080p or 1440p, I moved the texture setting from very high to high and it's fine.

It's silly not to consider the Fury at £250.

So am I still looking at the GTR XFX 480 or am I watching for possibly a Fury Black Friday as well. Or is it all dependent on which deal is thje best on Friday?:confused::confused:

just found this thread, in similar position, but looking to upgrade from a 7850, budget is slightly lower also, but interested in seeing peoples opinions
