Hi folks.

I'm looking to upgrade my current build to give it a boost. I play a lot of games on this machine and want to buy some upgrades to give it a noticeable speed increase. I play a lot of fast paced games and have just recently purchased battlefield 3 which i know does seem to strain my rig ( Not sure if it is optimized properly yet? ) I play in 1920x1080 resolution on a 23" LG monitor.

So hopefully someone can notice some improvements which will get me cracking.

Core i7 950 @ 4.0Ghz
Asus P6X58D-E X58
6GB Corsair cm2 1600mhz
EvGA 480 GTX
Corsair H50
CoolerMaster 850Watt
W7 Pro 64-Bit

Kind regards

Seems like a solid rig to me. If anything I would get an SSD you should see a general speed up and a generally more responsive PC. If its more fps you want and the 480 is really struggling I would go for a 580 or 590 if you got the cash. But in my opinion I couldnt see a 480 stuggling with FPS at that res, I have a GTX 285 and I can play almost every game on max graphics without any problems at 1920x1080.

Hope this helps :)

Well i purchased it around 10 months ago but battlefield 3 seems to be the only game that has struggled so far on this machine (and possibly metro2033).

Would they much difference between the 480 and the 580, is frame rate respect?

Also what SSD would you advise please. I'm looking for a 120gb one, so that i can have just windows 7,world of warcraft and battlefield 3 on.

Kind regards

There will not be a big increase for the 580 but it will be able to cope better. You will only see a big gain if you get the 590 but as I said before only if you got the cash, it is an expensive card lol.

As for the SSD I would reccomend this: Kingston HyperX 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 (on offer this week from OcUK)

If you want a cheaper option I would go for: OCZ Agility 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3
But it seems like this SSD has some firmwire issues so you would have to play around with it i.e just update the firmwire to make it fully stable.

Yea...SLI the GTX480 would provide the biggest performance increase at the least cost, but it would depends on if OP's CoolerMaster 850W PSU's 12V rail can handle it (while I'm not sure which CoolMaster 850W the OP got, here's the three 850W PSU I found on CoolerMaster's site- Real Power Pro only has 768W on the 12V, the Silent Pro M850 has 792W on the 12V, whereas the Silent Pro Hybrid 850W has 840W on the 12V).

If it was just a moderately overclocked i5 2500K then it might ok, but a overclocked to 4GHz i7 950 would be pushing it a bit, due to its higher power consumption.

Hi guys thanks for all your responses, if only i could track down a cheap secondary evga gtx 480, there prices are ridiculous at the moment. Is they an alternative option?

Also ive had a look at my PSU and the following image shows the 12vaoutput.

Kind regards

Ok i have just managed to source down a second evga gtx 480, and that will be here on Wednesday. My main query is now will my power supply above before enough to run the both of them please?

Also i want to add an SSD into the mix. I'm torn between the M4 and the Corsair Force Series 3. Is they much difference between the two? I heard the Corsair had some issues in the past?

Also is they any point in upgrading my RAM to 8GB? Will i notice any difference within gaming or general tasks on the pc?

Kind regards

The psu should be ok as long as you keep the cards at stock, and dont go running things like furmark. 6gb of ram is plenty at the minute for games.
