Upgrading my GPU, what can my PSU handle?

I've been rocking my R9 270x 4gb for a while and it's served me well, but it's time to upgrade. Here's my current spec's;

FX 8320-E @ 4.0ghz
MSI 970 Gaming MOBO
8GB RAM
550W 80 Plus Gold Superflower
500HHD

I'll have around £300 to upgrade my GPU and was wondering what can my PSU handle? I'm not looking to SLI.

I'm running a 1080p 144hz monitor so I don't care about 1440p or 4k.

Many thanks, Marco. :D

The 390x doesn't come in under £300 and isn't the best bang for buck. Save some pennies and go get a good GTX 970 for under £300. I'd suggest the 290x, but they've gone back up in price, folks should have ordered one earlier this week when there were some ridiculously good deals (<£250). OCUK were so kind, they dropped the regular prices of the 970s, especially the better ones at £300. I ordered my MSI Gaming 970 yesterday evening (will arrive on monday, gah can't wait that long!).

If you do go for a 970, the best ones are the MSI Gaming (hence why I purchased one myself) and the Gigabyte G1. Asus Strix is another good one for the low noise, though it doesn't clock as high as the other two. If you don't mind a potentially noisy card, there's a Palit currently on offer for £240 with a blower fan. The regular Palit Jetstream cards are also great, their cooler is on par with the MSI for noise. EVGA SSC is also a decent one.

Ahh why does this have to end this week, why can't it carry on until the 3rd!

I might push the boat out a little and go for that instead. :eek:
