I have a MSI GX660R

its comes with 2 500gb 5400rpm hard drives, i'm going to replace then due to pausing while gaming :(

They are set up in raid 0 so if i take them both out and put 1 320gb 7200rpm hard drive in would the laptop boot up? or do i have to have 2 hard drives that are the same in set to raid 0?

i dont need loads of hard drive space so 320gb wil be fine

or another way is to use one 5400rpm to boot windows and the other one a 320gb 7200rpm to run games and apps would this work?

If you take both drives out then it will not boot up as you will have no operating system.

You can't just use one of the drives as each drive in RAID 0 only has half of your data on it.

You will need to install everything again onto the new disk, or one of the 5400rpm drives, or clone your existing disks onto the new disk.

Having said that I can't imagine you'll see much difference doing what you plan to do. The speed of a single 7200rpm drive isn't likely to be noticeably different to a pair of 5400rpm drives in RAID 0.
