Long story short, I recently invested into a new GPU. GTX 980 Ti, this was a big step for me considering my current build is somewhat bad.

Here is my current build.

Now my question is, I need a new CPU and motherboard. Which should I get?

I come up with this:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory

But people are telling me to get an i7? I don't know much about computers, but whats the difference from an i5 and i7?

In simple terms, the main difference between them is that i7 processors utilise hyper-threading technology to make themselves appear to have double the number of cores they actually have to the operating system/programs. For heavily threaded workloads, this can make them significantly faster than core i5 processors, which don't have hyper-threading.

Which CPU would you recommend if I was to use my GTX 980 ti with it? To have the best performance.

The best performing gaming CPU at the moment is the i7 6700k. Depending on what else you use your computer for apart from gaming though, you might want to get an i7 5820k instead as it has more cores and may prove to be more future proof. The 6700k is only marginally faster than the 5820k in games. My personal choice would be the 5820k if you can squeeze it into your budget.

What motherboard should I get with the i7 6700k?
