hey, I am looking to upgrade my computer for Christmas I have a budget of £100 - £120

here are my current specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.40GHz (slot 748)

Mobo: ASrock P4i65GV (more info here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=P4i65GV)

RAM: 1GB

PSU: 360W

Graphics Card: Nvidia 6200GE

if anything else is needed just leave a comment saying what, I will probably able to find it out.

Thanks
x

Upgrade all imo...

And your not going to be able to do that with your budget =/, but if you really want to do something, upgrade the RAM and try and find yourself a cheap Dual Core somewhere....

agreed on replace all
it will be cheaper and easier then finding parts to upgrade your current system which is extremely outdated.

well, I was thinking of upgrading the Mobo so i can get a better graphics card in there,

I don't need an amazing computer just good enough to run counter strike source and such games like that.

will this PSU be enough ??

x

Very limiting psu - modern graphics cards wont work well with that. I upgraded to 650W from 500W!
Take stock a little - read around the forums to see what sort of hardware you going to need.

Yes that PSu will be fine, tilly ou come to upgrade later and wish you'd bought a better one to begin with.

mobo upgrade will very likely mean CPU adn RAM upgrade, unless you can source another skt748 MB with at least pci-e 1 support

msi-s478-intel-945gc-ddr2-matx-audio-lan-intel-gma950
google it and you will see it.

i was thinking of purchasing that....

with a new 2GB ram

No offence, but a pointless upgrade. Would be better to get some more money and do a worthwhile upgrade...

while the MB will allow you to use better GPUs, your CPU will cause a major bottleneck thus restricting the majority of the GPUs potential power.

Replacing everything would be the ideal scenario. But on that budget, getting some new Ram and maybe a graphics card is the best you could do.

Yup really that whole system needs to be stripped and replaced, but if you really cant go to the £400-600 that would probably cost then extra ram and a newer GPU should give a boost something along the lines of

VTX ATI Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail []

£71.99

OcUK Value 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit []

£32.19

Thats assuming a 360W PSU will power a 4770, that the motherboard has PCI-e and that the ram is DDR1.

Really you ought to save up a bit and try and up that budget abit more for another £200 you could probably replace the worst of it.

the OPs current MB does not have PCiE

Ah well the only AGP that OCUK have in stock is this:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3650 512MB DDR2 Dual TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail [11129-02-20R]

£64.39 inc VAT

It probably is better than your 6200GE though but check the benchmarks on toms hardware or somewhere and it will definitely run CS:S

Its really not worth your while upgrading that, youd be investing money into ancient tech. Save up then sell up and get a new computer :)

if you are desprete to upgrade (at least £50 over budget)
