Hi all i need a little advice about upgrading my laptop as i know little about upgrading them. Ok so i have a:

Toshiba Satellite Pro A100-830 Core2 Duo T7200
RAM 1 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 533 MHz ( 1 x 1 GB )
Hard Drive 120 GB - Serial ATA-150 (im assuming this is a 5400rpm hdd??)

Laptop will be used for 3d modelling apps like Maya, high spec games, various other things :) so i need some advice please,

Ok so the RAM -- i was looking into upgrading the RAM to either
OCZ 1GB DDR2 PC2-5400/667MHz SODIMM CL5-5-5-15
OR
Corsair 1GB, DDR2 667MHz, 128Mx64, non-ECC, 200 SODIMM, Unbuffered, CL5, Lifetime Warranty

1. Anyone have any opinions on which may be better or is RAM just RAM?
2. Is it worth getting some 667Mhz? will it make much difference (i was thinking of selling the 533 thats already in there to get 2gb of 667)

3. The HDD im assuming is a 5400rpm. Would it make much difference to load times etc if i got a 7200rpm one of similar capacity? Thats if i can actually get them? :D

Thanks a lot for any advice :)

Come to think of it maybe the RAM would be enough? depends if the time to benefit ratio of upgrading the HDD is worth it

hi pcAnywhere thanks for the reply, yes i will be getting 2gb of the RAM,

But i was more interested in whether i should get 533(already have 1gb) or 666mhz(will cost more to get 2gb)? will it make much difference?

Sorry - misunderstood you. I thought you were just changing to faster speed RAM...

Do you have the option of overclocking your processor? Most laptops don't. Find out what the FSB is for that chip (I have no idea) and multiply that by 2. This gives you the optimum memory speed for this processor.

If you can't overclock then buy memory of this speed as faster RAM will not be utilised. You need to remember that with RAM, the speed is a function of the FSB. High speed RAM simply allows for a faster FSB to be used.

thanks for the advice will check the bios options and get back to you :) what options am i looking for then in the BIOS? i wasnt planning on overclocking it unless 100% safe. It is a laptop afterall :D
