Upgrading onboard audio

Currently rocking the ALC1220 onboard audio and use decent headphones for sound output.

I'm in the market for a dedicated solution but unsure what to get so any recommendations?

What is your current mobo ?
Cap/amps also play a part of your mobo isn't to bad for audio hardware etc

What's the difference between the one above and the one I've selected below?

I always had a dedicated sound card, but due to PCI limitations when i had SLI, i tried to go without and use on board sound. Was shocking. So bought the Creative Soundblasterx G5 external DAC along with some Senheisers - stunning! External DACs also better at limiting interference.

I'm torn between the AE-5 and the Z but many peeps are saying to avoid Creative due to bad driver support so now I'm not so sure what to do?
