Upgrading OS Drive

I've got the parts coming for a system upgrade next week including a 4TB M.2 drive (Fury Renegade) as I jumped on a deal for it. I want this to be my media drive for video editing.

I'm planning on getting a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB for the OS and programs, but I'm waiting till Black Friday as I'm anticipating deals on these.

If I install Windows on the Renegade now, how easy would it be to swap over to the Samsung as the OS drive later? Adding secondary drives is obviously a doddle, though previously when I've upgraded the main OS drive, it's been ages so just went with a fresh install.

Will cloning it work, or am I going to have to do a fresh install?
What about drive letters, I'm used to C: being the OS drive, does it have to be on C: and the Renegade will be assigned to C: initially?
If I can just clone it, what program is recommended?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah cloning will work
Windows should assign C to whichever drive
It boots from I think
Must be having a bad day lol
I do that sort of stuff all the time should know
For certain
Just both drives will have the same name when cloned
If you name your drives that is
but given theyre different sizes and makes you will
easily know which is which to rename one
If you can still get a free version of macrium
It's a highly recommended cloning/imaging tool

Thanks Mcnumpty!

I'll check out macrium

Would I also need to change the boot drive in the bios?
To begin with
To make sure your clone was successful
Could do it in the bios
Usually I just press the F key
F8 for my asus but some boards use F12 or other keys
And select a one off boot drive
And if it boots correctly
I just switch the default drive in msconfig

Mines a bit more complicated lol
Got 5 x m2 drives and 4 x sata ssds
And multiple operating systems
