Hi! I'm about to replace my Asus P4T533 motherboard with a Gigabyte 965P DS3. I currently have a Tagan TG330-U01 330W ATX Silent PSU (CA-008-BT) link: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-BT&tool=3&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

which is apparently "ATX 12V Version 1.3* and downwards compatible." Will this even work with the Gigabyte motherboard?

Other relevant facts:

I'm also upgrading to an E6600 processor and 2GB of DDR2 RAM. I don't play any PC games so I'll just be getting any old crappy PCI-E card. I have 2 hard drives.

If I do need to replace the PSU I'll probably get a Corsair 520w, which I've read very good things about. I'd rather save the cash though if possible! :)

Thanks!

should be ok mate but depends how many other devices etc youre running

sorry i thought it was a 380w. i reckon you'll be pushing it TBH

Thanks! What happens if I push it? Is something going to get damaged? I don't really understand about PSUs, obviously!

Ideally you will need an ATX v2 PSU as they are 24 pin compared to your 20 pin connection. Although I have built many systems running without the extra 4 pins connected, I haven't on a decent board like the DS3. You can get 24-20 pin converter cables.

The power is fine though, as the Core 2 Duo is efficient and you won't be running a high end graphics card.

Thanks for the advice :) I suppose I might as well just buy the new one then. I don't want to take any risks! Maybe I can get some dosh for the Tagan on ebay. It's only about 7 months old...

Cheers :) I've had my eye on that card actually. I was going to go even cheaper but that one looks like a better investment.

The main thing I want this PC to be is as silent as possible! Is that PSU known to be particularly quiet or can I do better? And how about the 7600 - will that be noisy?

Thanks!

the corsair 520w is a top psu. very quiet and built using very high grade components. it also comes with a 5 year warranty. it is by far the best psu you can buy for that price

"designed to supply hi-performance power and look cool"

lol thanks mishima! I'm really not planning on getting into PC gaming anytime soon so cheers for saving me £20!

No worries, I just think its a bit pointless to spend money that you don't need to on hardware that you don't need - logic! :) As I mentioned around the 400-450W mark should definately be enough power for your current setup!
