Hey guys,

this may sound like a silly question, but I am wondering if, before upgrading to a new mobo and processor, I need to change anything on my Windows installation? Do I need to uninstall chipset drivers, or should it just work if I reconnect my HDD to the new board?

Thanks
jerry

Agree with Surveyor, always best to re-install windows on new mobo.

Not sure if you can just re-attach the hdd to a new set-up, don't think it will work (i may be wrong and i am sure someone more technically minded will let you know).

Like for like works fine - do this at work.

My PC's data drive has done this fine too (did re-install OS on other though).

Want to try this out when bulldozer come out, as need a new mobo & cpu too...curious.

I have swapped my hard drive before from Mobo to Mobo . It is doable bit some times may take a bit of tweaking to get it working properly again. I would personally recommend fresh install as this may not work with all mother boards. :/

It may well boot Jerry but you are asking for driver issues. I really suggest you backup your data and do a fresh install.

It might make sense to partition the drive so u have a backup partition if u need to reinstall again in the future. Be careful you dont overwrite it though a second drive really is the best option for backups

I've tried upgrading the motherboard without reinstalling Windows twice, and got nothing but BSOD. A fresh install is the only way to be sure everything is going to work properly.
