just picked up a 2nd hand psp and it has custom firmware on it. I want to stick the latest official firmware on so I downloaded it but before installing I need to know that this isn't going to brick my system with it upgrading from custom!!!

Hope this post doesn't break any forum rules - I am taking about installing legit firmware so not talking about dodgy hacking etc.

What custom firmware has it got? You might be able to make a pandora battery first which could unbrick it if it did go wrong. But having said that you should be fine

I know at one stage Sony wouldnt allow PSPs to update to offical FW if it had custom firmware on. Not sure if its still the same now.

Updated fine... just discovered the bloody UMD won't read disks though!!!!!!!

I could buy a replacement UMD Laser from the bay and fix it I suppose.
