Upgrading slightly from a 2500k to 2600k

Since a total system upgrade would set me back £500+, I have just manage to get a 2600k cpu for just under the £100,, so when I sell my 2500k cpu, the upgrade will of costed me about £50

I know its not much of a upgrade but apparently the min fps in games will be higher, so thats a bonus, and I am not a big gamer, so spending mega money is a tad pointless, when all my games I play run quite smoothly anyway.

Just a quick question though, will my memory speeds change at all,, as I have read they increase the speed with the 2600k? Im using the 4x 4gb Kingston HyperX Grey 1600mhz (XMP mode)

I seem to remember I sold my 2500K for £70 and bought a 2700K for £60 a couple of years ago. Win! :p

I'm considering doing the same upgrade. I don't have money for a complete system overhaul and play games so sparingly now that it wouldn't make sense to splash out anyway. Keep us updated!

Yeah games will be smoother because of the extra threads, my 2500k stuttered in BF1 I sold that and upgraded to a 3770k and the stuttering was gone, Even clocks higher to 4.8Ghz, 2500k only done 4.6.

I was going to buy the 3770k first, but then I realised a 2nd hand one was quite expensive and the ivy cpu's apparently doesn't overclock too great. But the 3770k is slightly faster then the 2600k, but I thought if the 2600k overclocks higher then the 3770k, the speed should be about even... The only thing that Im gutted about not having a ivy cpu, is that the ivy cpu's will change the pcie speeds from 2.0 to 3.0:(

I hope this 2600k overclocks well because my i5 is useless, as I can only get it running at 4.3 with 1.3v and thats quite high volts for 4.3ghz.

I’m thinking of the same upgrade - I have basically the exact same system as you albeit with my i5 2500k running at 4.8ghz. Even my ram is the same. I suspect we both bought the same bundle all those years ago from OCUK!

I have just looked when I bought the cpu and it was Nov 2011 and the memory was something like £60 for 16gb so it was rude not to have loads of memory at the time.

I want a 3770k myself but not willing to pay £100 for it, if RAM pricing wasn't nutty then I'd have gotten the r5 1600 for £135 the other day with Asus motherboard for the game pack.

Some folks appear to be willing to pay £180+ for one on a frequent basis. One sold at the end of last month for £225!

Thats what I wanted aswel, but I would have had to of paid £150+ and that's not even new... My i5 only costed me £160 all those years ago.

I cant see the point spending stupid money for one,, your not going to see night and day improvements. Plus its not like its going to keep your system running smoothly for years to come. If it was 8 real cores Im guessing you would see a huge boost....dreamland that..

Sold my 4.4GHz 3570K for £60 & replaced it with a 4.3GHz 3770K which I got for £120. It was definitely worth it for better frame rates in pretty much everything for an outlay of ~£65.

I think my 2500k to 2600k upgrade cost me around £20 in total. Absolutely no brainer upgrade :D When I get some free time I'm going to see if I can get a stable 5GHz out of it, it's already at 4.8GHz and I have had it at 5Ghz before, but not fine tuned the settings to make it stable.
