Hey guys, its that time again when things start to not perform aswell as they once did and I have the moolah to upgrade.

My current set up is in my signature but I am looking to upgrade in the coming months to something new.

Items to upgrade:
PSU - Require Modular for a cleaner look ;)
CPU
RAM
GPU - Most likely hold out for a 1080.
CPU Cooler

So what would you guys recommend?

I mainly use my rig for Gaming and some Media Work.

Is it worth upgrading to Skylake or waiting for the next generation?

I was planning on selling my old components to my brother because he needs to upgrade his machine too but i am reluctant because there isnt much performance increase.

I do have 2 SSD's :)

I'd say wait. Try and figure out the poor performance issues. Maybe just the GPU needs upgrading - 2560x1440 res with a GTX 670 would not be surprising at this point in time, if playing modern AAA games.

And maybe your drive could do with a fresh Windows install. Do you have an SSD already? (Yes you have two :) )

In any case, Skylake wouldn't be much of an upgrade gaming-wise. You could go with X99 6-core if any of your media work uses more than four cores. Or wait for something newer. There are new Broadwell-E chips coming soon ("summer") for X99, new boards too.

I have always been interested in getting a 2011v3 socket board but I'm just worried that it wont be long until they change socket?

It would be overkill for what I need but being a techy the attraction comes naturally.

Its always difficult second guessing socket changes, etc but Broadwell e will be socket 2011-v3 Skylake e may have a socket change.

How long can your brother hold out for the componets ?

I can make him wait till September/October because we are both keen for the new Battlefield game. Looks like I might buy 1080 and hold off for a while and see whats coming up.
