Upgrading SSD

So I bought a prebuilt system which only had a 128gb SSD.

Wish I hadn't been so tight now.

Anyway, how easy is it to swap out the ssd and migrate the files over? The OS runs of the SSD.

Ghost or image would be the best way. However, it only takes about 30 mins to Install!

Is it relatively straight forward? The install that is, surely if its the same make just bigger capacity its just plug and play so to speak?

It depends what you want to do, do you need all your data on an SSD as back in the day you combined a small and fast SSD with a larger HD where you stored data, this gave fast OS boot times and you'd keep things that took time to load on the SSD, data such as media content eg films/music was stored on the mechanical drive as it made no difference how fast the drive was to your ability to play back content.

In short you might be better off with a conventional HD depending on your usage requirments.

So currently, I have a 1tb HDD and a 128gb SSD.

I want to upgrade my ssd as it's practically full and I'd like the ability to install the odd game on there.

Using Macrium Reflect would I have to unplug the HDD and plug my new ssd in that slot to copy over? Or can I simply backup the old ssd, plug in the new one and restore onto the new ssd?

If I was to do a clean install would I lose everything that I currently had on my HDD?

you could use a cheap USB to SATA cable to mirror your current drive, that way you don't have to open up the PC until you want to install the new drive.

Use a migration tool, plug in the USB cable with new SSD attached and select it as your destination drive. Job done, then just open it up and swap them.
