Upgrading ssd

Hi. First off, I've had my OC's PC for about 3 years give or take. It still runs well, I've taken care of it. I may get a new one in a year or two, not quite yet. But I've been thinking of adding another ssd, specifically an nvme m.2 to my motherboard, which is a Rog Strix z270e. Just in anticipation for games like Starfield that only accept ssd's.

Some things I want to know, would any do? Any recommendations?

Also I want to know if the BIOS needs any adjustments, or if drivers need to be installed.

Hoenstly I'm a little scared since I tried to do something like this a few years ago on another computer, (not an nvme though) but it BSOD'd on me. I did something wrong, so a step by step would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you have two, one is above the graphics card, the other is below the chipset. The tech spec says that:

- M.2 slot 1 shares SATA 1 port, when a SATA M.2 drive is installed.
- M.2 slot 2 shares SATA 5 and 6 ports, when a PCI-E M.2 drive is installed.

So, I'd suggest a PCI-E 3.0 M.2 drive in M.2 slot 1, if it is convenient to access. The SN570 1TB is currently well-priced.

It looks like M.2 slot 1 and 2 need a standoff and a screw, which are probably not pre-attached to the board and found in the box?

You shouldn't need to do anything other than install the drive and load disk manager on your OS to format it and assign a drive letter.

Thanks a lot. Is slot 1 the bottom one? The user guide says this:

A: Is M.2_2(SOCKET3) this is the one above the card
B: Is M.2_1(SOCKET3) this is the one at the bottom

So I'm just assuming the _2 part for A is slot 2, and _1 for B is slot 1. A for 2, B for 1.

Sorry I just want to get this right. Also if it's relevant, my C drive is an ssd, and I also have a mechanical storage drive on E. Both are inside a tray cage or whatever you call them.

It's usually marked on the motherboard I think if you've got good eyesight!
