Upgrading thoughts ...

pretty good. I changed parts quite frequently in the past half a year (like 5 GPUs in 2 months time) and if I set the price correctly, my item sells in hours.

A i5 760 will not hold you back in most games. You should even be able to get a bit more out of it. Mine could do 4.2Ghz and i wish i didn't bother "upgrading" to Haswell sometimes. Get the 7970 and enjoy it.

I have been trying to find a Carbide 540 second hand to match my 650D and 800D in my other builds. Unfortunately they seem pretty hard to find but as cases go, i think it is great value for money brand new and so wont feel bad about paying the full price.

The platinum would be my top choice. I will probably invest in one if the R9-290 price disappoints.

So, the card has arrived and I'm rather impressed with the size and weight of it! I have a couple of questions, the underside of the card has a film on it which looks like it can/should be removed... I guess I remove it? And it requires 2x8pin connectors to power it... I'm unsure if my PSU has these!

I can see this turning into an expensive trip to ocuk, cause this itch has become itcher!

Just checked my box for my PSU and I don't have 2x8 pins. Just:

20+4 pin
4+4 pin CPU
6 pin PCI-E
6+2 Pin PcI-E
6 x peripheral
2 x floppy
6 x SATA

I was tempted by the matrix for £225 but I've spent best part of £900, think I'll wait and see what the 290x is like.

Oh and I hope the ocuk weekend graphics card (Asus 7970 top and matrix) deal doesn't mean the matrix is cheaper than what you paid :)

I'll take it on the chin, but I doubt it will go lower than £225, it would mean a dramatic drop in price.

Odds are ill end up buying a new case tomorrow too :-0

Talking of new cases I ordered a new case and PSU(corsair obsidian 750 and corsair ax860). the other day, it came today. Going to try and build today.

I was just going to get a new motherboard plus CPU but then it got into needing a new os drive so got the 250gb Samsung 840 evo, then ended up ordering a new case plus PSU. So its gone from only wanting to spend a few hundred to almost a grand.
