Upgrading to 16Mb

Hi,

Im currently with ukonline and couldnt be happier. Recently Ive been thinking of upgrading from 8mb to 16mb however ive got a few questions first.

How can i find out if my line can handle it. I know of people who get worse download speeds and pings in games even though theyve got double my connection speed. Im 930m away from my exchange if that helps at all.

Ive also got a bog standard usb modem (the one with 3 lights on the front) and was wondering if this would be enough or would i need to get a adsl2+ modem?

You'll need an ADSL2+ modem, or the most you'll get is 8Mbps.

It doesn't - what are you connected at now, and SNR margin/attenuation would also be useful too (instructions might be in sticky).

right well right now im connected at 8mb (im guessing this is what youre asking) and i never get disconnected either apart from the 3-4 times in the past 2 and a half years..

what modem/router would recommend?
