ok hope you can help a new boy incase i blow £160 ! ive got a MSI K8N Neo4 currently with a 3400 Venice single core , is it worth the upgrade to a Dule Core 4600+ ? if so can i just slot it in after a bios upgrade or do i need to re install windows ?

Assuming your board/bios support the chip, you dont normally need to reinstall windows for a cpu change. However, it wont always update the HAL automatically., so it may only detect 1 CPU until you update it.

So once the new chips installed just check under the Hardware manager, and check that the computer type is set at ACPI Multiprocessor PC. If it's anything else, you should be able to change the driver to ACPI Multiprocessor PC and then reboot, and all will be done.

Obviously before you can make the change, you need to make sure any bios options to enable dual core are turned on, and the chip needs to be installed.

1gb 3400 ram , 9600 Graphic, mainly video ripping / dvd burning and video...
I'm quite sure you would feel the benefit in that case, adding another gig of RAM wouldn't hurt either though.

he is quite correct, given what you do, another gig may be of use and the dual core function would definatly help! (yey for DVD shrink :D ) you shouldn't need to do much to be honest other than pop the CPU in your board and install the AMD dual core driver and AMD optimiser. Enjoy your chip!! :)

ok chip arrived and installed - also the software you said ! both processors are showing as installed - slight problem though - pc is not running right , its flying when running video etc but if i try to open windows etc they freeze, i rebooted and got bugcode_usb_driver blue screen of death ... logged back in after unplugging all usb cables but still not right - do i need to install windows ? or do anything else ? ive moved from a single core 3000 and i really hoped it would be simple to pop old one out then new one in !

mobo is msi kn8 neo4 - bios is uptodate

hope someone can give me some good advice !

If you google it you will find lots of threads. It has nothing to do with the DualCores.
