Upgrading to AMD X2 on Shuttle SN95G5V2

Hello :)

I am hoping to upgrade my Shuttle SN95G5 from my current AMD 3500+ to something like a dual core 4400+.

It is a Shuttle SN95G5V2, meaning that is was released before AMD X2 processors and therefore wasn't advertised as supporting them.

My sometimes-right-but-will-never-say-he-doesn't-know friend tells me that I can reflash my BIOS to make it work, which apparently he says is quite easy for Shuttles. I was hoping you could help me out with some questions:

- Is this true that I can reflash/update BIOS to add support for X2 processors?
- If so, is it easy?
- I don't have a floppy drive - can you do it using a USB memory stick or will I need to buy one (not expensive I know) and temporarily connect it?

Thanks :):)

I had the V2 SN95 and it indeed did run the x2 3800 fine make sure you get the ms dl , i didnt have to upgrade the bios as far as I remember im going back about 6 months now

You didn't have to update the BIOS? I might try that - if it doesn't work presumably it just won't boot, it shouldn't hurt anything...

Thanks for your help :)

The reason for BIOS updates is not only to fix bugs (also very important) they find but also to let the mobo support newer componets like processors. Therefore you could risk damaging your mobo or new chip by just trying it without an update (normally it will just not boot up)
