Upgrading to Win 8 From Vista SP2...

If you wish to stay with Vista I wouldn't use the recovery disk set. Instead download an untouched release Vista with SP2 integrated media. This might prevent you using recovery disc set in the future, but a non-bloated install followed by latest drivers might improve laptop performance compared to recovery set with all the added bloat that most manufacturers include.

Can try the links here and download either 32-bit or 64-bit version (they use same key on label underneath laptop so don't need to worry about sticking with 32-bit version if that's what originally came with laptop).

You can also make a DVD that doesn't require manual entry of product key if you decide to get more technical later on. Read up about making a SLP (System locked pre-install) disc on same site.

I used a tool called OEMBios from same forum to retrieve some files from BIOS chip and then followed instruction for mastering a new DVD.

Shame there isn't a SP3 for Vista as there is loads of updates to downlaod and install post SP2.
