Hey guys,

Ok here's the scenario, I have laptop coming in a few weeks so I plan to upgrade my home network. At the moment it's all running from a wired linksys BEFSR41 router.

I'm not sure which is the best wireless router, but I plan to replace my BEFSR41 with a Linksys WRT54GS-UK Wireless-G SpeedBooster Broadband Router/4-Port Switch .

This will allow me to continue running the house network and allow the laptop to connect to network wirelessly etc? Also want to check that the router is compatible with my cable modem?

Finally, I wanna also share a printer on the network. I'm thinking about getting a Linksys PSUS4 USB Print Server & 4-Port Switch , then connecting the switch to the new router. Wanted to check that everyone will still be able to see/use the printer (inc laptop)?

Regards,
King :)

P.S Improvements to plan / products welcome. (Printer = Canon ip4000)

Just buy a router with an inbuilt USB port for a print server.... The Speedtouch 585 has this IIRC - though this is an ADSL modem/router. There are many models of wireless router with these ports so look around for one. So I would just change the wireless router, and use this as a point for everything - connected into the cable modem.

be carefull with print servers, bad ones crash all the time. (and usb is genrall a pita compared to parrallell)

If you can strech go HP, the wired 175x is just under £100. Not sure if they doa wireless version

Well, you could, but a Draytek Vigor would be a good bet. They are among the best routers money can buy (consumer range), but one will set you back about £140-160. You might as well save money and get two if that works though.

the linksys router shouldnt be no prob, worried about the print server. Is there a compatable list?

Will it work with a canon ip4000?
It should work with any usb printer. But then there are a lot of computer components that should do things which they seem to dislike doing :p
