looking to upgarde a 3 yr old irg. .

will install win7 to take advantage of 64bit extra ram etc

and extend a hdd to a 2tb module

at present

so guess im looking at extending ram, can i run ddr3 8gb x 2sticks in ths?

new gfx card, 1 GB etc

so being a non pc of an amobea understanding level, what advice could yoiu give me on an upgrade

budget, guess £300-400
 
You cant fit DDR3 RAM to you board.

DDR2 RAM is expensive.

Are your HDD+DVD drive of the SATA variety?

what are you trying to get out of this PC? extra gaming performance? or video editing times reduced?

it will be used for large raw file editing, 14bit per chanel Raw 128mb single file size images converted to 8 bit tifs. and ofcourse running the obligatory gaming "oh i should be woerking but need to kill and maime'

so BF3 and FSX etc

the psu is a new 750 w corsair.

Actually it does say they are SATA in that link, (under each drive) but just to check, do the cables going to them look like this,

Might be worth start fresh,


Keep your HDD+DVD drive

Check the GFX card fits in the case (its 280mm long)

Sell your CPU/RAM and add a SSD?
 
I'd say stulid has the right idea, no reason to compensate for old equipment when you can just upgrade it and get a lot more bang/buck.
