I have received an offer for just my desktop pc, no peripherals. Specification are in sig.

How much of an upgrade would this be on my current system.

Keep your RAM and PSU
xFire 6950 is about equivelent to 7970 (I think)
Why do you want to upgrade?

I don't particularly want to upgrade. But my brother has made an offer for my machine, and for the sake of spending an extra couple of quid, wanted to see how much of an improvement I could get.

Not much, apart from the GPU and CPU
You could keep yours, your brother gives you that money ,and you can build him a shiny new build :)

Thanks for the quick reply, If it's not much of an upgrade I wont bother. I'm assuming the i5 2500k is still the way to go for gaming?

THe H100 doesn't fit in the Z9 (i have the Z9 myself)

On that budget I would go with this

Not sure you need the hyperthreading of the i7. I've used the OEM ivybridge i5K, it's cheaper than the retail version and this basically pays for that excellent heatsink.

The mobo can overclock the CPU it's SLI/Xfire capable and it;s LucidMVP software can use the IGP to boost the GPU (not that it needs it). Intel quick sync uses the IGP to boost video encoding tasks by supporting software.

The 670 i have spec'd is already overclocked for you and uses less power than your AMD choice. Being nvidia it has HDAO lighting and cuda support (which in my eyes is more useful than HT). I managed to get a good sized sataIII SSD in the spec and a 2TB eco storage drive as well.

Hope this helps....we could just spec a rig for your bro you know lol

Speccing a rig for his brother would probably be easier, but we all know it's nice to buy new hardware so I understand why he would rather build himself a new rig instead after parting with his current one, even though it probably wouldn't be a huge upgrade. :p

Minus the SSD, would that be a significant improvement on what I already got?

Thanks for the fast replies.

You're welcome bud :)

It's not a significant leap no, ivybridge is more of a tweak than a leap. I hope you can understand why I spec'd what I did in comparison to yours. Getting the SSD in the spec obviously helped but there were other nice lil features.....modular PSU,LucidMVP,CUDA,Xfire/SLI support etc ;)

It's definately worth discussing your options at 100 posts you qualify for free delivery. This can help you grab upgrades when they on offer at a good price, so you could add a SSD or a better heatsink (by your OC im assuming your on the stock one).

If your bro has a budget in mind we are more than happy to make some suggestions :)

Well, after speaking to my brother, All he wants is Guild Wars 2 ready and League of Legends.

I know anything can play League of Legends. But Guild Wars 2 beta struggled on high for me, might of been my drivers though.

The maximum he is willing to spend is £700 with no peripherals other than a monitor and a headset.

Thanks in advance.

By drivers you mean it's not happy running in Xfire I would imagine.
