Been having internet problems lately after switching over to sky broadband.

Wiring connections for the house :
extention directly connected master socket ,to sky digi box, with filter.
Extention connected by BT engineer from outside of master socket where the line comes into house to back of house.This socket is for Modem. filter connected.

Cordless phone system connected to master socket.

Internet connection cuts off regularly or some websites i cannot access ,when i either have phone or even just the filter connected to the master socket.

If nothing is connected to the master socket, internet is fine.

Upon connecting the telephone and filter back in to the master socket, i played around with the settings on the router.

If i was to untick the UPNP box, i can access websites that could not be accessed before ?

Anyone know why this happends as i dont fully understand UPNP ?
 
The UPnP setting most likely relates to allowing UPnP data to pass over your NAT dynamically. If you dont use any UPnP services such as a media streamer over your WAN connection then you wont need it 'ticked'

From your problem it sounds like a dodgy filter, just attaching the filter shouldn't give you any problems. Have you tried a different one? Avoid using cheap trashy filters at all cost
 
It is a known issue with the Sky branded Netgear DG834GT wireless router that UPnP is flakey and can cause problems with disconnection. The normal cure is to turn it off in the router settings. This will mean that you will have to configure any port forwarding requirements that you have manually.

The UPNP was on by default when they sent it me.

yeah , have turned it off with no problems now.

Wanted to use my own Linksys gear, but they cant give me the details to configure it. :mad:
 
Use this Linky to get your username and password from the Sky router. Put it in the Linksys and "Robert is your father's brother". :cool:

If you use the Linksys you will however be breaking Sky's T&Cs. ;)
