Any recommendations for UPS software? I'll be buying a APC CS-500 for my htpc soon, it comes with Powerchute v2 but wondering if any other software is a better choice.

cheers

imho, Powerchute works fine, closes applications and shuts down system gracefully if battery drains before power resumes. Works over the network too. It isn't sophisticated enough to answer dialogs "file has changed.... do you wish to save" etc., that software my ask when closing. It's simple and effective.

I used to use the APC software when I first got my SmartUPS, but then decided that the windows options where more than enough for my use! Now have a BackUPS and still happy with the windows options.

Not an answer to your question - just a question to your post :)
Any reason you are going for the APC UPS?
I've just spent a week deciding which UPS I was going to purchase for home use.
In the end I decided upon the Belkin 1200VA Universal UPS (which I managed to find for £89+vat).
I was tempted by the APC units but just found that I could get "more VA's for my money" looking at the Belkin units.

Just interested.

I trust the APC ones more, I've used their units before and they have never been an issue.
however I've bought Belkin networking parts and had no end of issues, so I know who I trust (dunno about the OP)

Belkin UPS don't seem that great quality/reliability from the reviews/comments around.
