Getting a 40X3500 tomorrow, was wondering whether to get a DVD player to upscale my old DVD's to 1080? If so, what would you guys recommend?

Or... Will the TV be able to upscale it for me?

You need a DVD-Video player that'll scale to 1080p. No point sending it 720p then the screen scales it to 1080p again. Need to compare say Oppo 981 set to 1080p, to a decent DVD player with 480i/576i or 480p/576p, then letting the TV to de-interlace and/or scale to 1080p.

Oppo 981 is about as good as you can get for "reasonable" money. For £179 its the best player sub-£250, and you have to spend upwards of £500 to see better results!

Yeah, the oppo is what I have for my aquos, but don't expect miracles my friend.

I have my TV linked to my PC and the upscale abilities of the PC using ffdshow etc truly blow it out of the water. Still good though, just don't expect a 1080p picture.

That said, the oppo is a giant leap ahead of a £25 player so suppose its worth the money.

I have an old LG DVD player, but I recieved my TV this morning and been playing a standard DVD through my PS3 (HMDI connection) and the quality looks pretty good, not like my Blu-Ray films but still impressive.
